About this role: In this role you will be supporting administration tasks at MNH. Duties may include data entry, corresponding to emails & phone, class registrations, MNH outreach promotion and other tasks.
Time: This role can be 6-12 hours a week depending on volunteer availability.

About the program: After school club is a program for Primary School aged children. The children’s club is a place for children to meet, play indoor and outdoor games, get homework support and have fun.
About this role: In this role you will assist our Youth worker with children’s activities such as outdoor and indoor games, homework support, art and craft and engaging with primary school aged children.
Time: 3.30pm to 5.30pm once a week on Thursdays except for School holidays.
Supervision and training: this role works alongside Youth Worker and MNH staff. Volunteers with MNH have available to them a range of training modules as part of Whittlesea Community Connections and can include; Introduction to WCC volunteering, Aboriginal Cultural Safety training and more.
Experience: No experience needed. Would be advantageous to the program if you have worked with children or have a creative skill that is applicable.
About the program: English Conversation Class is run in partnership with Prace. It is a class for local people to improve their English language skills in a supportive environment.
About this role: This class is run by a qualified EAL teacher. You would be supporting the students to complete tasks set by teacher and contribute to general conversation.
Time: This class runs each Thursday morning from 9.30 – 12.00 except for school holidays.
Supervision and training: This role is supported by MNH staff and English Conversation teacher. Volunteers with MNH have available to them a range of training modules as part of Whittlesea Community Connections and can include; Introduction to WCC volunteering, Aboriginal Cultural Safety training and more.
Experience: Some experience in similar role of benefit but not essential. Affinity for CALD communities a must.
About the program: MNH is set in an environment filled with varieties of eucalypt trees, community garden raised beds and ornamental gardens. The space also has additional buildings which need maintaining.
About this role: In this role you will help MNH maintain their outdoor space and gardens and may include mulching, weeding, planting, painting structures, using blower to keep areas neat.
Time: This is negotiable and could be 6 – 8 hours a week.
Supervision and training: This role required volunteer to work on their own or in a team and will be supported by MNH staff. About the program: Mernda Repair Café is a repair shop that offers community a unique and largely free service. The Repair Café is run mostly by skilled volunteers of various skill sets.
About this role: This role brings together skilled repairers to be part of Mernda Repair Café. The café is a repair shop program which runs once a month at MNH. Your unique skills would complement a range of other offerings which can include electrical and shoe repair, bike maintenance, garment repair and more.
Time: Repair Café runs monthly 10-2pm.
Supervision and training: You will be supported by Repair Café Coordinator, other volunteers and MNH staff. Volunteers with MNH have available to them a range of training modules as part of Whittlesea Community Connections and can include; Introduction to WCC volunteering, Aboriginal Cultural Safety training and more.
Experience: Expert skills in your skills set will be utilized to help fix broken goods.
About the program: MNH manages a Facebook page linked to an Instagram account. It also has a website offering community opportunity to enrol in classes or find out the latest news.
About this role: In this role you will support MNH stay up to date with social media posts, help with community newsletters and website maintenance.
Time: Negotiable but may be 6 – 8 hours a week.

About the program: Mernda Neighbourhood House has established the first women’s wood work program in the City of Whittlesea. It is an opportunity for women to come and learn how to use tools confidently, create things out of wood and feel more confident to repair things at home.
About this role: In this role you will support the Women’s Shed facilitator to provide assistance to the participants and maintain a safe space to work in. You will support each participant to complete their individual projects and help set up/pack up before and after each class.
Time: 9:00 – 1:00pm once a week each Friday’s during school terms.
Supervision and training: Direct support and induction Women’s* Shed facilitator. Further support MNH staff.Volunteers with MNH have available to them a range of training modules as part of Whittlesea Community Connections and can include; Introduction to WCC volunteering, Aboriginal Cultural Safety training and more.
Experience: Experience in wood work or using tools highly regarded.
About the program: MNH Wood Work class is part of our suite of Learn Local programs. It is a mixed gender class teaching participant’s how to use tools safely, create objects and furniture out of wood and build DIY confidence.
About this role: In this role you will support the Wood Work teacher to provide assistance to the participants and to help provide a safe environment. Each participant will be at different stages of their projects. You will assist them to complete each project. You will also help with set up and pack up before and after each class.
Time: 10:00 – 12:00pm each Thursday during school term.
Supervision and training: Direct support and induction from Wood Work teacher. Further support MNH staff including an induction to Mernda Neighbourhood House. Volunteers with MNH have available to them a range of training modules as part of Whittlesea Community Connections and can include; Introduction to WCC volunteering, Aboriginal Cultural Safety training and more.
Experience: Experience in wood work or using tools essential.
About the program: MNH Sewing class is part of our suite of Learn Local programs. It aims to build the skills and expertise of its participants so they can confidently tackle any sewing project.
About this role: In this role you will provide support to the teacher and participants in the class to complete their work. Each week the teacher will lead the activity and as a volunteer you will assist the participants trouble shoot machine problems, teach sewing techniques and provide guidance to complete projects. It is also optional to meet with the teacher at the start and end of term to discuss class program, improve program and plan for future classes.
Time: 9:00 – 12:30pm.
Supervision and training: Direct support from sewing teacher and further support from MNH staff including an induction to Mernda Neighbourhood House. Volunteers with MNH have available to them a range of training modules as part of Whittlesea Community Connections and can include; Introduction to WCC volunteering, Aboriginal Cultural Safety training and more.

About the program: MNH aims to build an array of composting systems or models with which to compost their own green waste and show their local community the various ways one can compost at home.
About this role: In this role you will develop and manage the compost systems at Mernda Neighbourhood House. The compost systems will act as community deposit centre and as educational model. You will make sure the systems are as well balanced as possible, sourcing materials if needed with support from MNH staff. You will liaise with the Mernda Community Gardeners to manage the compost systems.
Time: Approx. 2 hours a week.
Supervision and training: This role is supported by gardening teacher and MNH staff. Volunteers with MNH have available to them a range of training modules as part of Whittlesea Community Connections and can include; Introduction to WCC volunteering, Aboriginal Cultural Safety training and more.
Experience: Knowledge of composting essential.
About the program: MNH has established a mini op shop. The op shop has for sale a variety of things from clothes to nicnaks. The money goes to support MNH programs.
About this role: In this role you will help to keep the mini op shop neat and orderly, price and put up new donations for display and sale, be point of sale when volunteering.
Time: 2 to 3 hours a week.
Supervision and training: This role is supervised by MNH staff and may work with other volunteers. Volunteers with MNH have available to them a range of training modules as part of Whittlesea Community Connections and can include; Introduction to WCC volunteering, Aboriginal Cultural Safety training and more.

About the program: MNH Advisory Group are community representatives who provide valuable input into the growth and direction of our programs and services. The group meet once a month on a Friday morning and are joined by the Coordinator of MNH.
About this role: The Advisory Group role can include; advocacy, community consultation, promotion, program development, fundraising activities and more.
Time: One hour a month or more depending on involvement in projects, meeting note taking and other tasks.
Supervision and training: This role is supported by Coordinator of Mernda Neighbourhood House and includes opportunities for training, professional development offered by WCC or other civic participation opportunities through Local Government.
Experience: No experience needed. Prefer residents from Mernda, Doreen and local surrounds.
About the program: Fundraising is an important activity for MNH and a means to raise funds for classes and programs, small infrastructure improvements and community events.
About this role: In this role you will take the lead for organizing fundraising events and activities, seek sponsorship and other means of raising funds for MNH.
Experience: Some experience in similar role valued but not essential.
